Gary Ambrosino is a high tech innovator and a leader in printing innovation. In 1995, as VP of Marketing and Business Development at Xionics Document Technologies, Gary was responsible for identifying the emerging market for Multi-Function Peripherals (MFP’s) as a key transition point in the computer printer industry. Working with key manufacturers including Hewlett-Packard, Cannon, Fujitsu, and Xerox, Gary developed the semiconductor chips and software necessary to build modern high performance MFP’s. This seminal development in the printer industry allowed inexpensive scanners and laser printers to be combined in a new way to replace traditional photocopiers at a fraction of the cost.
Pursuing this basic strategy, Gary led the transition and repositioning of Xionics, turning it into the premier embedded systems software for most MFP’s including Hewlett-Pacard, and almost all of today’s modern digital photocopiers. Xionics also became the primary supplier of Page Description Languages PCL and Postscript in the world. Xionics went public in 1996 and was subsequently acquired by Zoran (Nasdaq: Zoran) now part of CSR semiconductor where Xionics products continue to be the premier embedded printing system in the world.
